South Dakota/Wyoming

June 17, 2009

We feel like it's so difficult to get time to do this blog!!! We're trying our hardest to keep you up to date with what we're doing. Well, after getting a good night sleep in South Dakota, we woke up and went to the famous Mt. Rushmore. As we were driving along the street, Jake was suddenly like, "Hey, there they are!" It was so funny because they were literally just on the side of the road. (the presidents) The enormous faces and intricate scupting were so amazing and one lady passing us said it so well: "You see this all of the time in books, but it's just so mezmorizing when you are seeing it yourself." So true. It was incredible to see this.

We then started our trek across Wyoming towards Jackson Hole. This was an adventure all in itself. The drive was about 10 hours, but the last 3 hours were mountains, and it was interesting how quite suddenly there were just mountains surrounding us. As we got closer to Jackson, the small mountains turned into the Grand Tetons and words can't express the beauty which they behold. The quest to find the cabin where we are staying was a difficult and hilarious one because it is seriously in the middle of the Grand Tetons and we were driving late at night. At one point, we had to stop dead in the middle of the road because a bunch of some crazy animal were just hanging out, no big deal. We are staying with Sam and Leslie, friends of a friend, and they seem really cool and fun! Jake and I are looking forward to today, when we can explore these mountains, maybe take a hike and just chill for a day finally. We both went running this morning and can't believe that we are running in the Grand Tetons...ain't no thing. More later!

  1. It's been a lifelong dream to visit the largest truck stop in the world, and now Jake has beat me to it. Well, you got that going for you, which is nice. I still think running the White Pine trail is better than the Grand Tetons, but that's a conversation for another day. You guys be careful; I'll be watching over you every day. See you back here tomorrow.

  3. Yes!!! I just opened the fridge and found the PBR and the note. You guys rock. I'll be thinking of you at Dude's Night in the Sauna with Buth. By the way, last night Leslie and I had a sudden moment of shock when we realisez that we only made one bed for the two of you while you may not be a couple. Is that right, did we mess up?!

    Take care,

    Sam

  4. Sam-
You and Leslie were AWESOME hosts! No worries at all. Kristin is one of my best friends in the world and we were just fine staying with you guys. Thank you again for opening your home to us both. Wyoming has certainly been a highlight of the trip and you and Leslie were a huge part of it.
